The Strength Beneath
What active women need to know about bone, muscle, and movement health in midlife.

Why this event?
You may be health-conscious, proactive, exercising regularly, investing in wellness, and staying informed — yet still unaware of one of the most overlooked risks affecting women in midlife: silent bone loss.
Bone loss begins quietly in midlife — even in women who are active and invested in their health.
Join us for an evidence-informed workshop exploring the overlooked connections between menopause, bone density, muscle health, balance, movement, and fracture prevention.
What you'll learn:
- Why most fractures occur before osteoporosis is diagnosed
- The connection between menopause, muscle loss, and bone health
- Why balance and strength matter as much as bone density
- Evidence-based nutrition and exercise strategies
- What active women should know about screening and prevention
Why This Matters Now
Bone health is often overlooked until it requires your attention. Yet the most significant changes begin much earlier—during the years many women are not yet thinking about it.
You may already be taking steps to support your health—lifting weights, taking calcium, or making thoughtful lifestyle choices. While these are important, they are often only part of a much more complex picture.
Across the lifespan, shifts in hormones, muscle mass, and body composition quietly influence bone strength. Without awareness or early intervention, these changes can accumulate over time.
This event has been designed to bring clarity to a topic that is too often addressed too late—offering a more informed, proactive approach to understanding and supporting your health.
The data reflects what many women are not aware of:
Risk of osteoporosis doubles every 5 years between ages 40–60
Most women are not yet thinking about bone health during the years it is changing most rapidly.
Bone loss often occurs without symptoms
By the time it is detected, significant changes may have already occurred—making early awareness and prevention essential.
Less than 20% of fracture patients receive follow-up assessment or treatment
Even after a clear warning sign, most individuals do not receive the evaluation needed to address underlying bone health.
2.5 million Canadians over 40 are living with osteoporosis—80% are women
This is not a future issue—it is already affecting millions, often without awareness.

Event Day Details
Thank you for registering for The Strength Beneath. We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday May 24th at 9:00 AM for this 3.5-hour, workshop held at Sherri Bell Hall in the Wilna Thomas Building at Camosun College’s Lansdowne campus.
This carefully designed morning experience brings together clinical insight and practical application to support a deeper understanding of bone health and body composition across the lifespan. Through a combination of expert-led presentations and interactive sessions, you will explore how hormonal changes, nutrition, movement, and lifestyle factors influence your body—and how to respond with clarity and intention.
As part of this event, we are pleased to offer attendees exclusive access to discounted, clinical-grade DEXA scans through the Camosun College Athletic and Exercise Therapy Clinic. This optional add-on provides an opportunity to gain precise insight into your bone density, muscle mass, and body composition, further enhancing your ability to apply what you learn in a meaningful and personalized way.
In addition to the educational sessions, we’ve created space for reflection, conversation, and connection. A mid-morning snack and refreshments will be provided, and complimentary parking is available on campus on Sundays.
Our goal is that you leave feeling informed, grounded, and confident in how to support your strength moving forward—with a clearer understanding of what’s happening beneath the surface, and what to do next.
We look forward to sharing this experience with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our upcoming event on Bone Health
Why should I be thinking about bone health now?
Bone health is often addressed too late—typically after significant loss has already occurred. In Canada, approximately 2.5 million adults over 40 are living with osteoporosis, and the risk increases significantly during the years surrounding menopause. This workshop is designed to help you take a more proactive, preventative approach.
Why should I be concerned about bone health if I’m still in perimenopause?
Perimenopause is one of the most important windows for bone health. Hormonal changes can begin to impact bone density, muscle mass, and how your body responds to exercise and nutrition. The choices you make during this stage can significantly influence your bone health in the decades that follow.
I’m in my 70s, have had a DXA scan, and take calcium. Isn’t that enough?
The current medical approach often focuses on screening later in life and managing bone density once loss has occurred. While this is important, bone health is influenced by a broader set of factors including muscle mass, movement, and overall nutrition. This workshop expands beyond diagnosis to help you understand how to actively support your bone health at any age.
Do I have to have a DEXA scan to attend the event?
No. The DEXA scan is completely optional. You will gain significant value from the workshop on its own, and the scan simply provides additional personalized insight if you choose to include it.
What is the difference between a DEXA and a DXA scan?
DEXA and DXA refer to the same technology. In the medical system, it is typically used to measure bone density and assess fracture risk. A full-body DEXA scan expands on this by also measuring muscle mass and fat distribution, offering a more complete view of your body composition.
Will I be required to share my scan results?
No. Your results are completely private. If you choose to complete a scan, how you use that information is entirely up to you.
When should I book my DEXA scan—before or after the event?
You can choose either option. Completing a scan before the event allows you to engage with the material using your own data, while booking after ensures you are well-informed and able to interpret your results and take meaningful next steps.
I can’t attend the event. Can I still access the DEXA scan offer?
The discounted rate is reserved for registered attendees. The workshop provides the essential context needed to fully understand and apply the results.
Is this workshop only for women with osteoporosis or bone concerns?
No. This workshop is designed for women who want to better understand their bodies, whether they are focused on prevention, navigating hormonal changes, or looking to take a more informed and proactive approach to their health.
What if the cost of the workshop is a barrier for me?
We understand that financial circumstances can vary, and we want this information to be accessible.
A limited number of supported-rate spaces are available for those who would benefit from attending but may find the cost prohibitive. If this applies to you, please reach out directly and we would be happy to connect.
